Archaeology Department has started graduate programs within the Department of Archaeology and History of Art since 1982 in the course of M.A. and Ph.D programs. In 1989, with the establishment of the Department of Protohistoric and Near Eastern Archaeology graduate programs started as a seperate branch. In 1997, the Department of Archeology was established and subdepartments of Prehistoric Archaeology, Protohistoric and Near Eastern Archaeology, Classical Archaeology were founded as seperate branches. However, graduate programs have been carried out in the Department of Protohistoric and Near Eastern Archaeology. In 2001, after the abolishing of the seperate branches in the Departments of Archaeology all around Turkey, an associate graduate program was formed which is still being carried out. With the consciousness of responsiblity to the cultural history of Anatolia and its vicinity, the department’s aim is to bring into light, to protect and to document the monuments and ruins and to transfer the common cultural heritage of humanity to the next generations. Besides, the department’s goal is to make a contribution to the archaeological research by excavations, surveys and interdisciplinar investigations which help to bring up the traces of material culture about the past. At the same time, it provides the student with a broad and detailed information about the different subjects and problems that is put into practice through excavations and surveys that students take part in. By this way it’s also aimed the students to become individuals who have academic and intellectual accumulation, and field experience. In this respect, it’s aimed to advance inquisitive spirit which possess the cultural heritage, obey ethical codes, provide the preventions through the protection of cultural heritage, to update the repertory of knowledge, to transfer the theoritical accumulation to praxis, to generalize the data and study for to improve the consciousnss of cultural history of public, in the name of social responsibility to intensify the display of the works worldwide, to provide the participant and modern educational level. |
